June Lake Fishing Report
The fishing on June Lake has never been better! We have received over 10,000lbs of trout from the state. Due to the lack of fish at local hatcheries, they brought over several truckloads from the west side. We have also filled our fish pens for regular releases, and Mono County and the June Lake Trout fund have stepped up their stock funds as well.
There are tons of nice pan sized trout that are going after bait like crazy. You can use a bobber or tough bubbles and fish closer to the surface in the morning, or, as it heats up throughout the day float baits off the bottom. The best are pinched crawlers, garlic powerbaits or eggs in chartreuse, nightcrawlers with lunker lotion, or micetails. Newer anglers have even had luck just casting and retrieving.
If you prefer to go after larger trout, try using thomas buoyants or kastmasters on frog, red/ pink, or blue patterns. Trolling 5 to 7 colors with Tazmanian Devils will get you on the big ones. We have seen still trout over 5lbs every week. This week the big one was over 7lbs.
